- SANTA BARBARA FREE FLIGHT
Welcome to the Santa Barbara Soaring Association. Santa Barbara is one of the premeire year round free flying sites in the United States. Our south facing mountains and mild coastal climate make Santa Barbara a unique free flying experience. Our mountains are flyable year round with the best thermal conditions in September through May. June, July and August offer soarable conditions, but we are limited by a marine inversion that is typically present during the summer. Our costal ridge soaring sites are also flyable year round, with most consistent flyable conditions in the summer months. Our training hill is arguably the best in the United States.
The Santa Barbara free flight scene dates back the early 70's when local hang glider pilots pioneered the flying sites in Santa Barbara.
The Santa Barbara Soaring Association’s goal is to continue to build a positive, proactive flying community in the Santa Barbara/Ventura area by providing support, education and encouragement for current and new members.
